The Dodge Challenger: The Original Racing Demon
The “Dodge Challenger” name was given to three generations of automobiles (two of which were pony cars). The first-generation Dodge Challenger was formally introduced to the market in 1970. Offered as either a coupe or convertible, the lineup had eight available engines and nearly as many trims.
The second generation appeared in 1978, and was a rebadged Mitsubishi vehicle. The third (and current) generation, was the first to be powered by the SRT8 engine and a 6.1-liter HEMI engine. In 2015, the SRT8 engine was replaced with a 392-cubic-inch 485 hp 6.4-liter V8 SRT HEMI engine and the 707 hp supercharged 6.2-liter SRT HEMI engine. With a heft better suited to drag-racing than turning laps on the racetrack, the updated Challenger is one sleek beast.
