The Dodge Dart: A Compact & Redefined Classic
The Dodge Dart originally started in production in 1959 and was marketed as an alternative and more affordable Dodge with a shorter wheelbase. The Dodge Dart then became a mid-size car in 1962 and finally became compact in 1963. It ceased production in 1976 and was later resurrected in 2013 as a modern compact sedan by Dodge to compete in the market.
The new Dodge Dart consists of a transverse mounted engine, front-wheel drive system. The 4-door sedan made its debut in the 2012 North American International Auto Show and became available in the market the following year. The transverse mounted engine along with the front-wheel drive layout made the car smaller but more spacious since all the engine load is at the front, with the engine being perpendicular to the road as opposed to the usual parallel engine setup. This layout makes the car cheaper and more compact, having better fuel economy without compromising cabin space.
